21st Century Jobs: How Much Does It Pay To Be A Twitter Consultant?

Pinterest consultants and Facebook cover designers are among the jobs enjoying a surge thanks to social media

The rise of social media and the internet has brought about a wave of new jobs that didn’t even exist five years ago - and the pay's not bad either.

The number of Pinterest and Twitter consultants registering for work has surged over the past 12 months, according to online freelancer marketplace PeoplePerHour.

There has also been a large jump in Facebook cover image designers, tutors who teach via Skype and mobile app developers.

And as more products are sold online, there are rising numbers of 'user experience designers', who specialise in customer interaction with websites or apps.

The new sector is proving to be particularly lucrative for specialists, who are able to charge up to £35 an hour for their expertise.

According to the Office for National Statistics, nearly three-quarters of adults have accessed the internet every day in 2013.

Twitter and Facebook have been two of the the social networking phenomenons to benefit from these changing habits.

Pinterest, a photo sharing website, only launched four years ago, but is now used by millions of people.

And workers are more than happy to adapt their skills to meet employer demands for people who understand the changing use of technology and the internet.
“Twitter consultants, Google analytic consultants, user experience designers – these are all jobs meeting the needs of internet-based businesses,” said Xenios Thrasyvoulou, founder and CEO of PeoplePerHour.

“What’s particularly impressive is how fast specialists ‘pop-up’ the moment a new internet-technology is launched. Pinterest only launched four years ago - now there is a skilled workforce of Pinterest consultants ready to take advantage of a new technology.”
